Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu met with the Ambassador of the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland, Fern Horine. The officials discussed ways to strengthen the friendship between the Republic of Moldova and the United Kingdom, increase cooperation across various sectors, and expand investment projects and trade exchanges.
The Prime Minister highlighted that the United Kingdom is an important supporter of Moldova’s modernization and an active partner in promoting reforms and strengthening resilience against external threats. The two countries cooperate in the areas of security, countering disinformation and cyberattacks, as well as in the trade and economic sector.
In 2024, the export of Moldovan products to the UK market was extended for another five years. The removal of customs duties generated significant growth: plum exports increased 15-fold, apple exports nearly five-fold, and grape exports almost tripled.
Moldovan-British cooperation also brings social benefits: starting 1 August 2025, Moldovan citizens in their first five years of residence in the United Kingdom will be able to exchange their Moldovan driving licence for a UK one without additional exams.
The discussions also covered the continuation of UK support for justice reform, combating corruption, and attracting foreign investment into Moldova’s economy, with a focus on opportunities in the IT sector, industry, and the agri-food sector.
