Germany will provide the Republic of Moldova with €24.4 million in additional grant assistance to support the country’s EU accession process and modernization efforts. The announcement was made by German Ambassador to Moldova, Hubert Knirsch, during a meeting with Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu, TRIBUNA reports.
€14.4 million will be allocated for technical assistance to support EU integration, build a strong and innovative economy, and improve local services through projects implemented by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ).
€10 million will go toward the project “Protection of children and access to water, sanitation, health, and social services for Ukrainian refugees and host communities in Moldova,” implemented by the German Development Bank KfW and UNICEF.
The Prime Minister expressed gratitude for the support and highlighted Germany’s significant contribution to the Energy Vulnerability Reduction Fund, which finances energy compensation schemes.
The two officials discussed expanding economic cooperation, with Germany being one of Moldova’s key trade partners and investors. They welcomed the upcoming Germany–Romania–Moldova Business Forum, scheduled for November 27 in Stuttgart, which will bring together business communities from all three countries. Currently, 429 German-capital companies operate in Moldova, including major employers such as Dräxlmaier, Steinel, Südzucker, Gebauer&Griller, and Kaufland.
Another key topic was cooperation in education, with Germany serving as a model and partner in implementing dual vocational training. Both sides supported the initiative to open a Goethe-Institut liaison office in Chișinău, aimed at enhancing cultural exchange.
