Irina Vlah Addresses Ambassadors: On November 14, the Court of Appeal Will Rule on the Case Concerning the Restriction of the Republican Party “Heart of Moldova” — An Unprecedented Breach of Democracy

Irina Vlah, President of the Republican Party “Heart of Moldova,” has sent letters to all foreign ambassadors accredited in the Republic of Moldova, urging them to monitor the developments surrounding the possible restriction of the party’s activities.

“On November 14, 2025, the Court of Appeal is expected to issue a ruling in the case concerning the restriction of the Republican Party ‘Heart of Moldova.’ This is an unprecedented case of a serious violation of democracy,” the letter states.

Vlah emphasized that the exclusion of candidates from the parliamentary elections, as well as attempts to restrict the party’s activity, are being carried out outside the bounds of the law.

“In fact, the ‘Heart of Moldova’ Party was removed from the elections solely based on suspicions, without a court ruling and without the possibility to challenge the decision of the Central Electoral Commission — an unprecedented case in our country’s history,” Vlah noted.

She further stated that the authorities are now seeking, through the Ministry of Justice, to suspend the party’s activity for 12 months — despite the absence of any legal grounds for such a measure.

“In this context, we ask you to monitor the situation regarding the case of the ‘Heart of Moldova’ Party and, to the extent possible, to respond within the limits of your competencies. It is clear that we are witnessing a blatant deviation from democratic principles and a highly dangerous precedent for democracy,” Vlah declared in her message to ambassadors.

In a social media post, the politician added:

“It was far too dirty a game to remain silent. What really happened in the parliamentary elections on September 28:

    • The Republican Party ‘Heart of Moldova’ was removed from the elections without a court decision, based solely on accusations published in pro-government media;
    • The court began examining the accusations only after election day;
    • We were not even allowed to challenge the CEC’s decision — the court simply refused to accept our appeal.”
