Germany, through the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, will support the Republic of Moldova with a 33 million Euro grant budget support aiming at securing the funding of the Energy Vulnerability Reduction Fund (EVRF), thus directly supporting the people of Moldova in coping with the energy crisis.
“The Energy Vulnerability Reduction Fund, established by the Moldovan government, helps to support the Moldovan population in times of crisis. With our contribution we want to ensure affordable energy for families and vulnerable households, sending a clear signal of Germany’s longstanding and reliable support for the Moldovan people”, said Ambassador Margret Uebber.
This new commitment builds on the German support during the winter season 2022/23, when the provision of a grant budget support for the EVRF helped 900.000 households in Moldova – around 75% of all households – with subsidies for energy. Both contributions have been provided through the German Development Bank KfW on behalf of the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the 2025 commitment responding to a direct request for support from Prime Minister Recean to German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
“We are grateful to Germany for its steadfast support in helping Moldova navigate the ongoing energy challenges. This 33 million Euro grant will directly benefit our most vulnerable citizens, ensuring they can afford essential energy services. The support provided through the Energy Vulnerability Reduction Fund ensures the protection of Moldovan families, and advances our path toward energy security and European integration. Germany’s support is yet another testament to the strong partnership and solidarity between our nations”, said the Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova Dorin Recean.
Germany’s new commitment of 33 million Euro complements the recently announced support package of the European Union, thus illustrating the joint support of the European Union and EU member states for the people of Moldova.
