The draft law that provides for the creation of the Anti-Corruption and Organized Crime Prosecutor’s Office (PACCO) was voted in the first reading by 61 deputies. This legislative initiative aims to strengthen efforts to fight corruption and organized crime by bringing together existing powers in a unified and efficient specialized structure, informs TRIBUNA.
The draft law was initiated by a group of deputies from the “Action and Solidarity Party”, following the decision of the Supreme Security Council of January 20, 2025. The proposal comes in response to increasing threats of electoral corruption, often facilitated by organized criminal networks. The authors emphasize that a specialized prosecutor’s office, with consolidated powers, currently exercised by the Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Cases (PCCOCS) and the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (PA), would allow a more efficient and integrated approach to these phenomena.
The legislative document establishes the principles of organization and operation of PACCO, along with transitional provisions regarding institutional reorganization and the transfer of powers.
