Challenges in the investigation of corruption cases and the effectiveness of the investigative tools of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office were the main topics discussed during the fifth meeting of the Anti-Corruption Platform. The event, hosted by the Ministry of Justice, was opened by Prime Minister Dorin Recean, Minister of Justice Veronica Mihailov-Moraru, and Chief Prosecutor of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office, Laura Codruța Kövesi, informs TRIBUNA.
“Our shared responsibility is to build effective mechanisms to fight corruption and protect the integrity of the justice system. The fight against corruption cannot be limited to reactive measures, prevention is just as important, and educating future generations is essential to build a culture of integrity. I am convinced that, following what was discussed today, we will strengthen the collaboration between the institutions of the Republic of Moldova and the European Prosecutor’s Office. Our path to EU integration is clear, and the EU’s anti-corruption policies are even more ambitious,” said Veronica Mihailov-Moraru.
Prime Minister Dorin Recean emphasized the importance of justice reforms as an essential part of the process of joining the European Union. “The government is firmly committed to promoting measures to prevent and combat corruption, both at the national level and through close collaboration with European partners. We must act with determination and show that no one is above the law”, stated Dorin Recean.
Laura Codruța Kövesi highlighted EU accession as a major opportunity for the Republic of Moldova. The chief prosecutor of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office mentioned the possibility of opening an office of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office in Moldova in the near future. “I am convinced that, through close collaboration and a common commitment, the authorities of the Republic of Moldova will be able to contribute to a European future. I reaffirm the commitment of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office to be an active and reliable partner in the joint effort to fight corruption, both at national and European level. We can help you, but it is important that you come to us with files”, emphasized Laura Codruța Kövesi.
