Irina Vlah: The INIMA MOLDOVEI case should become a topic of negotiations between Moldova and the EU

The Chairperson of the Republican Party INIMA MOLDOVEI, Irina Vlah, addressed an open letter to the leadership of the European Union, urging them to pay attention to the situation surrounding the political force she leads in the context of the future negotiations on the Republic of Moldova’s accession to the EU.

In the letter addressed to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, European Parliament President Roberta Metsola, and the political groups of the European Parliament, Irina Vlah stated that the INIMA MOLDOVEI case highlights problems related to democracy, the rule of law, and political pluralism in Moldova.

According to her, the negotiations on the Republic of Moldova’s accession to the European Union will begin with Cluster No. 1 — “Fundamentals”, which covers issues such as the rule of law, justice reform, the fight against corruption, protection of fundamental rights, and the functioning of democratic institutions.

Vlah claims that the situation surrounding the INIMA MOLDOVEI party represents an unprecedented case. She recalled that several months before the 2025 parliamentary elections, amendments were introduced to the legislation on political parties which, in her view, had a restrictive nature.

According to the party leader, INIMA MOLDOVEI candidates were excluded from the electoral process two days before the elections based on allegations of illegal financing, without a final court decision. She believes that this violated the principles of the presumption of innocence and the right to defence.

Irina Vlah also stated that the party’s activities have been restricted for about eight months, despite the fact that a financial review by the Central Electoral Commission did not confirm the suspicions of illegal financing.

According to her, on May 29, 2026, the Central Electoral Commission approved a report following the verification of the party’s financial activities, which, Vlah claims, confirmed that no violations had been found.

The Chairperson of INIMA MOLDOVEI said that the party appealed to the Ministry of Justice and the Chisinau Court of Appeal, requesting the removal of the restrictions, but no decision has been made so far.

“The case of Inima Moldovei demonstrates how serious the problems are in the Republic of Moldova regarding democracy, the rule of law, political pluralism, and fair justice,” the statement reads.

Irina Vlah called on European institutions to closely monitor this case and take it into account during the negotiations on the Republic of Moldova’s accession to the European Union.
