TRIBUNA continues its project presenting political events that took place exactly one year ago. This time, we invite you to recall what happened on September 2, 2025.

Raids in southern Moldova

Officers of the National Investigations Inspectorate and police officers from BPDS “Fulger”, with the support of territorial subdivisions and PCCOCS prosecutors, conducted 60 searches in southern Moldova. The actions were carried out as part of a criminal case concerning voter bribery, illegal financing of political parties, initiative groups and electoral contestants, as well as money laundering on a particularly large scale.

NOI announcement

The “New Historical Option” (NOI) political party announced that it had developed a programme containing concrete solutions for economic development, increased exports and a higher number of jobs. The programme was to be implemented immediately after the parliamentary elections.

PAS commitments

Igor Grosu, leader of the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS), presented five commitments of the party for the coming years. These included signing the EU accession treaty by 2028, doubling the incomes of the active population, doubling global sales of goods and services produced in Moldova, repairing 3,000 km of roads, and creating a programme to promote national culture and traditions.

Tudor Ulianovschi’s announcement

Tudor Ulianovschi, chairman of the European Social Democratic Party (PSDE), announced the death of his father, Xenofon Ulianovschi, a Doctor Habilitatus in Law and former vice-president of the Chișinău Court of Appeal. He described it as “the hardest day” of his life. The European Social Democratic Party also expressed condolences to its chairman, Tudor Ulianovschi.

Agreement signed

At the National Art Museum of Moldova, the Republic of Moldova signed an agreement to join the European Union’s “Creative Europe” programme. The document was signed by Moldova’s Minister of Culture Sergiu Prodan and European Commissioner for Intergenerational Fairness, Youth, Culture and Sport Glenn Micallef. The agreement was scheduled to enter into force on January 1, 2026.

Our Party’s objectives

“Our Party”, led by Renato Usatîi, announced its main 50 objectives aimed at transforming Moldova into a developed country where citizens are satisfied with their quality of life. According to the party, the only guarantee for implementing these proposals was to have as many “Our Party” MPs as possible in Parliament.

Patriotic Bloc proposes pact

Leaders of the Patriotic Electoral Bloc of Socialists, Communists, Heart and Future of Moldova (BEP) said at a press conference that they would under no circumstances cooperate with PAS in Parliament. They signed a Pact committing themselves not to form a governing coalition with the Action and Solidarity Party.

The leaders of the Patriotic Bloc also invited other parties with chances of entering Parliament — the National Alternative Movement and Our Party — to sign the Pact and make a similar commitment. Later, in a social media live broadcast, Renato Usatîi, chairman of Our Party, said: “Our Party will form a coalition neither with PAS nor with the ‘Other People’s Wedding’ bloc.”

Cristina Gherasimov in Copenhagen

Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov participated in the informal meeting of the General Affairs Council (GAC) in Copenhagen, held under the Danish Presidency of the Council of the EU. During the meeting, the official discussed the Copenhagen criteria and the opportunities offered by accelerated integration with her counterparts from candidate countries and the European affairs ministers of the 27 EU member states.

CEC meeting

At its meeting, the Central Electoral Commission approved amendments to the decision concerning the application to register candidates for Parliament from the “Blocul Unirea Națiunii” Electoral Bloc, which had requested that candidates be repositioned on the registered list. The Commission also approved several public-interest messages.

AUR’s assessment

Experts from the Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR) in Moldova conducted an assessment of the governance of the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS), concluding that the promises of “good times” had not been fulfilled and that all areas of public life were experiencing profound deterioration.

“Moldovans” Alliance project

Denis Roșca, president of the “Moldovans” Alliance, presented the second draft law prepared by the party for submission to Parliament — the Law on the Economic Development Fund of the Republic of Moldova. The document provided for the creation of a strong public financial instrument.

Glenn Micallef’s visit

President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu received European Commissioner for Intergenerational Fairness, Youth, Culture and Sport Glenn Micallef. The discussion addressed the essential role of culture and sport in strengthening democratic resilience.

Prime Minister’s meetings

During his visit to Japan, Prime Minister Dorin Recean met with Tanaka Akihiko, president of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), as well as representatives of Japan’s largest business association, Keidanren. The discussions focused on expanding bilateral cooperation between Moldova and Japan in the economic sphere and on development projects for Moldova.

Parliament announcement

Parliament announced that it was hosting an exhibition entitled “Symphony of Matter”, showcasing works by students and professors from the Department of Decorative Arts and Animation at the Academy of Music, Theatre and Fine Arts.

Socialists at the Municipal Bus Park

Igor Dodon, chairman of the Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova, together with Alexandr Odințov, vice-chairman of the PSRM faction in the Chișinău Municipal Council, and parliamentary candidate Alla Ursu-Antoci, met with employees of the Chișinău Municipal Bus Park.

Patriotic Bloc representatives meet ENEMO mission

Representatives of the Patriotic Electoral Bloc, Vlad Batrîncea, Olga Cebotari and Nicolae Fomov, met with representatives of the ENEMO international election observation mission. The discussions highlighted the importance of rigorous monitoring of the parliamentary elections that autumn in order to ensure a free and fair electoral process.

Siegfried Mureșan’s announcement

MEP Siegfried Mureșan announced that three important events dedicated to the Republic of Moldova had been included on the agenda of the first autumn 2025 plenary session of the European Parliament in Strasbourg: the vote on a resolution supporting Moldova’s accession process, a debate on the main elements of the resolution, and an address by President Maia Sandu.

“Electoral Compass” launched

The “Electoral Compass” was launched in Chișinău — the first neutral and apolitical digital tool in Moldova designed to help citizens make informed voting decisions. The platform compared voters’ opinions with the programmes and values of the electoral contestants, providing a clear and objective overview of the political landscape.

The platform was developed together with a consortium of German political foundations: Friedrich Ebert Stiftung Moldova, Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Moldova, Friedrich Naumann Foundation Romania and Moldova, Hanns Seidel Foundation Moldova and Heinrich Böll Foundation, with the support of NDI and IRI and in partnership with Dutch company Kieskompas, an international leader in such applications.

PRIM statement

The Republican Party “Heart of Moldova” (PRIM), led by Irina Vlah, issued a statement regarding police searches conducted at the homes of some party activists. The party announced that it had launched its own investigation, with its initial findings confirming that the actions against the party were clearly aimed at discrediting it.

PDMM announcement

The Modern Democratic Party of Moldova (PDMM) was excluded from the electoral race. The Court of Appeal rejected the party’s challenge against the Central Electoral Commission. PDMM announced that it would appeal the Chișinău Court of Appeal’s ruling to the Supreme Court of Justice and would continue its fight for justice.

Parade in Tiraspol

After a four-year hiatus, the military parade of September 2 returned to Tiraspol. The region’s leaders marked 35 years since the proclamation of the so-called Transnistrian Moldovan Republic. More than 1,000 military personnel took part in the march.

The Reintegration Policies Bureau described the parade as provocative and aimed at undermining the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova. Tiraspol criticized the Bureau’s reaction, saying that the parade was “an expression of the spirit of independence and the historical memory of the region’s population.”
