Maia Sandu, in Prague, received the GLOBSEC Award for “her role in anchoring Moldova’s future in stability and reforms”

President Maia Sandu of the Republic of Moldova took part on 21 May in the 21st edition of the GLOBSEC Forum, held in Prague on 21–23 May 2026 under the patronage of Czech President Petr Pavel. The event brought together more than 1,800 participants from nearly 80 countries. As one of the most influential international platforms in Central and Eastern Europe, GLOBSEC convenes heads of state, policymakers, business leaders, and strategic thinkers to address the most pressing geopolitical challenges of the moment, TRIBUNA reports.

On the sidelines of the forum, President Sandu held a bilateral meeting with her Czech counterpart, Petr Pavel. The two leaders reaffirmed the strength of Moldovan‑Czech relations, marked by well‑developed economic ties, growing trade, and deepening cooperation in security and defence. The Czech Republic remains a consistent supporter of Moldova’s European path.

President Sandu also spoke at a panel dedicated to the Republic of Moldova, where she shared the lessons the country has learned in countering foreign interference and hybrid threats. She stressed that external meddling in Moldova’s elections is a warning sign for all of Europe — especially for countries preparing to hold elections in 2027.

During the forum, President Sandu received the GLOBSEC Award, alongside the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola. GLOBSEC cited Sandu’s “commitment to defending democracy under pressure and her role in anchoring Moldova’s future in stability and reforms.” The President dedicated the award to the citizens of the Republic of Moldova:
“To those who have fought for democracy for three decades, to those who voted out autocrats and oligarchs. And to those who voted for Europe despite Russian pressure and threats — those who refused to be bought or intimidated. And to those who go to work every day. I am here because of them. It is an honour to represent them.”
