Prime Minister–led meeting: Measures to remove the pollutant from the Nistru are working

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova, Alexandru Munteanu, convened a meeting this morning with all institutions involved in managing the environmental alert on the Nistru River basin, in order to present the actions taken so far and the plans for the coming period, TRIBUNA reports.

The most recent water samples show improving indicators, confirming the effectiveness of the filters and containment barriers installed to capture and remove the pollutant from the Nistru. Sampling is carried out twice a day at critical points: Naslavcea, Cosăuți, Oxentea, Molovata, and Vadul lui Vodă.

On the platform of the National Crisis Management Center (CNMC), authorities are working at an accelerated pace to enable the restoration of access to water from the Nistru. However, this decision will be taken only after at least two consecutive sets of analyses, collected on two different days, confirm that the water is safe for consumption. Protecting citizens’ health remains the top priority.

Field interventions continue. In Bălți, more than 300 personnel from law enforcement structures are mobilized to ensure water supply for the population. The operational fleet includes over 30 units of equipment, with a capacity of more than 150 tonnes of potable and technical water, to meet current needs.

On the Nistru River, with support from national teams and international partners, anti-pollution barriers have been installed, and observation and intervention points have been set up in critical areas. In Cosăuți, a field camp has been established to coordinate interventions, including with the participation of teams from Romania. Border and public order structures are also involved to facilitate interventions and ensure security in the area.

Specialized water-intervention teams continue installing and reinforcing anti-pollution barriers, with all actions carried out under the sectoral coordination of the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Moldova.

Authorities will continue permanent monitoring of the situation and will transparently inform the population about developments and measures taken.
