Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu delivered a message marking four years since the Russian Federation’s invasion of Ukraine, TRIBUNA reports.
“On 24 February 2022, I was not watching the war on television. I was in Kyiv. I woke up to the first explosions; the sirens did not even activate in the first days. An airfield near my home was being bombed. In a matter of moments, the reality of millions of Ukrainians changed. They were forced to leave their homes in search of safety, and the war tore families apart, leaving behind pain and uncertainty.
Today marks four years since the Russian Federation launched a barbaric war against Ukraine. Four years in which the Kremlin has relentlessly bombed Ukrainian cities, struck energy infrastructure, and turned winter into a weapon against people. Russia has brought war into every Ukrainian home and kills innocent people in an attempt to break Ukraine’s spirit. But the spirit of this nation is unbreakable. Throughout this time, we have seen people’s determination not to abandon their freedom. We have seen the unity of a nation that does not bend but grows stronger and more resilient. We have also seen European solidarity — human solidarity — thousands of Ukrainian refugees welcomed at our borders by Moldovan citizens who opened their homes and offered food and shelter.
The Republic of Moldova condemns in the strongest terms the war waged by the Russian Federation in Ukraine. We stand with Ukraine and will support efforts for a just peace, based on international law and respect for territorial integrity. So that all those forced to flee can return home safely, including the children abducted by the Russian Federation. And so that the criminals — the perpetrators of this war — are held accountable.
Slava Ukraini!” the Prime Minister stated.
