PLDM: The first 100 days of the Munteanu Government confirm this cabinet’s failure to offer the Republic of Moldova a clear direction for development

The Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova (PLDM) states that the first 100 days of the Munteanu Government confirm the cabinet’s failure to provide the Republic of Moldova with a clear development direction, a coherent governing vision, and even a minimum of political responsibility, TRIBUNA reports.

“The balance sheet of these 100 days is worrying: instead of the promised change, we are witnessing improvisations, decisions lacking strategic coherence, and an increasingly visible gap between official rhetoric and everyday realities.

The current cabinet does not represent a real change in governance, but a direct continuation of PAS rule. Invoking a so‑called ‘adaptation period’ is inappropriate and politically dishonest, given that most ministers also served in the Recean cabinet,” the statement reads.

PLDM recalls that “the Munteanu Government operates without a clear governing program and, to this day, without an adopted action plan. This situation explains the lack of vision and the incoherence of decisions that dominate the act of governance. An executive without strategic direction cannot offer real solutions to the problems of the Republic of Moldova.”

“In economic terms, the country remains suffocated by the lack of vision and by the growing pressure of energy tariffs, which burden both citizens and the business environment. Instead of policies that stimulate the economy and offer real consumer protection, we are witnessing passivity and fragmented decisions.

The electoral promise of Moldova’s imminent accession to the European Union has proven to be an unsupported campaign slogan. More and more often, the Republic of Moldova is mentioned in negative contexts related to respect for fundamental rights and democratic freedoms. This is not the European path citizens expected.

The Munteanu Government refuses to assume a real administrative‑territorial reform that could lay the foundation for a profound restructuring of the state, and this lack of political courage blocks balanced regional development.

An example of the lack of vision in education is the way the Cahul University case was handled and the decision to incorporate it into UTM. Instead of strengthening this essential institution for the south of the country, the government chose a questionable administrative solution, criticized even by academic circles in Romania, confirming the prioritization of political interests over a balanced educational policy.

The security situation is more fragile than ever, including due to a hard‑to‑understand distancing from the United States of America. Worryingly, security is treated almost exclusively through restrictions on freedom of expression — a dangerous approach for democracy.

Furthermore, the Munteanu Government is the author of a regulation through which children of this country are arbitrarily deprived of citizenship, reflecting amateurism and a lack of responsibility. Arms and drug trafficking remain major problems ignored by the government. Paradoxically, the Prime Minister is almost absent from the public space, avoiding political accountability and communication with citizens, which deepens distrust in governance,” the statement adds.

PLDM believes that the Republic of Moldova urgently needs responsible governance, with strategic vision and respect for fundamental rights. Unfortunately, the first 100 days of the Munteanu Government confirm the exact opposite
