Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu and Minister of Energy Dorin Junghietu held a meeting with Gabriel Purice, President of the Romanian Commodities Exchange (BRM), who was visiting Chișinău. The discussions focused on BRM EST’s activity and opportunities to expand exchange transactions to other types of products, TRIBUNA reports.
Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu congratulated BRM representatives for their achievements in Moldova and for their contribution to liberalizing the gas market and strengthening the country’s energy security.
In just three years since its launch, BRM EST, the Moldovan subsidiary of the Romanian Commodities Exchange, recorded transactions worth over €650 million for natural gas, fuels, metals, and construction materials. Approximately €52 million was contributed to the state budget through taxes, VAT, and duties.
Minister of Energy Dorin Junghietu expressed interest in BRM’s intention to develop and operate a balancing platform for the natural gas transport system. According to BRM, this would align the Republic of Moldova with regional best practices in balancing gas transport networks and using market benchmarks (TTF and regional references), considered beneficial for transparency and proper price formation.
Options for expanding BRM’s activities to other product types were also examined, which could create premises for using standardized auction platforms beyond the strictly energy sector.
It should be noted that BRM EST was designated as the operator of the wholesale natural gas market by the National Energy Regulatory Agency for a period of 10 years. As a result, more than 35 participants were registered across BRM’s market segments, and over 130 million m³ of natural gas were traded during 2024–2025.
