Moldovan–Greek projects, the European agenda of the Republic of Moldova, and the access to pre-accession funds for implementing citizen-benefiting projects were discussed during the meeting between Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu and Nikolaos Krikos, Ambassador of the Hellenic Republic to the Republic of Moldova, at the Government.
The Head of the Executive expressed gratitude for the unconditional support received in the process of Moldova’s integration into the European Union and for the assistance in developing several key sectors. The Prime Minister highlighted the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the two countries to stimulate economic growth and advance on the path of European integration. Based on this agreement, the Republic of Moldova will benefit from Greece’s expertise in carrying out major investment projects in the country.
Another important area of cooperation is the energy sector. Thanks to Greece’s gas infrastructure – including the Alexandroupolis terminal and interconnections with Bulgaria – the Republic of Moldova has access to diversified sources of natural gas, which significantly strengthens the country’s energy security. Another successful collaboration, according to officials, concerns the commercial-economic field: Greece has entered the top 20 of Moldova’s trade partners, and in 2024 Moldovan exports to Greece increased by 66%.
Additionally, citizens of both states benefit from pensions under the Social Security Agreement, and this year a decision was made regarding the recognition of Moldovan driving licenses on the territory of Greece.
