The international conference “Women for Security” highlights how women’s involvement transforms communities

Over 150 government leaders, international experts, civil society representatives, and academics are gathering for two days in Chișinău at the international conference “Women for Security – From Opportunity to Real Impact: Advancing the Role of Women in Peace and Security Processes for the Next 25 Years.” The event highlights how women’s involvement transforms communities, strengthens social and institutional resilience, and contributes to building a sustainable climate of peace and security, TRIBUNA reports.

The conference marks a dual anniversary — 25 years since the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 and 30 years since the Beijing Declaration — milestones that show women are not just beneficiaries of peace, but also agents of change and advocates for a safer and more equitable world.

Throughout the two days, participants will discuss the evolution of the “Women, Peace and Security” Agenda and how international commitments can be translated into actions with direct benefits for people. The first day will spotlight women’s leadership 25 years after Resolution 1325, as well as regional cooperation, exchange of best practices, and lessons learned in implementing the agenda. Topics will also include crisis preparedness and enhancing recovery capacity through inclusive, collaborative, and gender-sensitive approaches.

The second day will focus on inclusive solutions for crisis management and protecting human lives. Discussions will explore ways to integrate gender perspectives into conflict prevention and early warning systems, with emphasis on preventing gender-based violence and strengthening peace. Central themes will include the power of negotiation, frontline voices of resilience, and the role of women as essential actors in maintaining balance and peace within communities.

“Women for Security” reflects the Republic of Moldova’s commitment to promoting gender equality, strengthening democratic institutions, and harnessing the potential of women in peace, security, and sustainable development.

The conference is organized by the Ministry of Internal Affairs in partnership with UN Women, the European Union Partnership Mission in the Republic of Moldova (EUPM), the Geneva Centre for Security Sector Governance (DCAF), and GS Foundation, with financial support from Sweden and Denmark.
