The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI) announced that, following overnight attacks launched by the Russian Federation against port infrastructure in the Reni area of Ukraine, two drone-related incidents were recorded in the vicinity of Moldova’s state border, reports TRIBUNA.
The first incident occurred at around 3:45 a.m., when a patrol from the Giurgiulești Border Police Sector, on duty at the Giurgiulești–Reni Border Crossing Point, observed an explosion in a truck parking area located on Ukrainian territory, approximately 150 meters from the border crossing.
The explosion sparked a vegetation fire, which spread over an estimated 70–100 square meters on Moldova’s national territory. At 3:50 a.m., a firefighting crew was requested through the 112 Emergency Service, and the fire was brought under control at 4:30 a.m.
The second incident was recorded at 9:25 a.m., when a mobile patrol from the Giurgiulești Border Police Sector discovered a crater approximately 1,000 meters from the state border, on Moldovan territory. Inside the crater were drone remains, including the engine, power board, and propeller components.
The area was immediately secured and the 112 Emergency Service was alerted. An operational team from the Cahul Police Inspectorate is carrying out the necessary investigations. At present, experts from the technical-explosives department are examining the site to determine the origin of the aircraft, its flight path, and all circumstances surrounding the incidents.
During the attacks on targets in Reni, employees of Moldova’s Border Police and other institutions operating in the border area, who were on duty at the Giurgiulești Border Crossing Point, as well as all people in the area, were exposed to risks generated by military actions taking place in the immediate vicinity of Moldova’s border.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs urges citizens not to approach the remains of aircraft, ammunition, or other unidentified objects and to immediately notify the authorities via the 112 Emergency Service.
If drone-like sounds or explosions are heard near the border, citizens are urged to remain calm, seek shelter in a safe place indoors, and follow only information issued by the authorities.
