During today’s plenary session, a Commission for the election of the President of Parliament was formally established, comprising deputies from all parliamentary factions. The Commission received nominations and oversaw the voting procedure. Two candidates were proposed: Igor Grosu by the Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) faction, and Alexandr Stoianoglo by the Alternativa faction.
Igor Grosu was elected President of Parliament with 55 votes. He received the Standard of the President of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova — a symbol of the authority held by the head of the country’s supreme representative body and sole legislative authority.
In his address to Parliament, Igor Grosu outlined the commitments for the new term:
“We have a unique opportunity — to become the Parliament of European Integration. It is our generation’s duty not to miss this chance. In the coming years, we commit to raising living standards, modernizing institutions, and investing in economic growth. With support from our European friends, we will build more roads and hospitals, modernize schools and universities, support agricultural industrialization, stimulate exports and business development, and double the sales of Moldovan-made goods and services across the globe.”
He also emphasized the continuation of reforms to strengthen state institutions:
“We’ve made progress and seen the results of recent efforts. But there’s still work to be done, and we will continue making the necessary changes to build a strong, independent justice system that serves the citizens.”
Igor Grosu previously served as President of the 11th Legislature (2021–2025) and was also a deputy in the 10th Legislature. He holds a degree in history and has served as Deputy Minister of Education and as an expert in various projects.
