On October 13, the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office filed an appeal with the Chișinău Court of Appeal (Central Division) against the verdict issued by the Chișinău Court, Buiucani office, on September 30, 2025, in the criminal case involving former MP Marina Tauber and the political party “ȘOR,” TRIBUNA reports.
Prosecutors consider the decision to terminate the criminal proceedings for interference in the administration of justice to be unfounded and argue that the sentence applied for the other four charges, for which the defendant was found guilty, is too lenient. “The court’s decision to terminate the criminal case for interference in justice, based on the claim that it constitutes only a misdemeanor, is unjustified. In the view of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office, the act meets all the elements of a criminal offense. All relevant evidence was presented to the trial court, and the argument that ‘insufficient evidence was gathered’ is not valid, especially since the incident was fully documented, including video and audio recordings,” prosecutors stated.
Furthermore, the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office considers that the sentence of seven years and six months in prison—applied through partial accumulation for four charges related to falsifying campaign and party financing reports and accepting illegal funding from an organized criminal group—is disproportionate to the gravity of the offenses: “Such a sentence does not ensure the effective correction of the defendant, does not restore social justice, and does not deter others from committing similar crimes.”
Therefore, the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office has requested the Chișinău Court of Appeal (Central Division) to partially annul the verdict of the Buiucani office, retry the case with recognition of Marina Tauber’s guilt for interference in justice, and apply a cumulative sentence of 13 years in prison for five charges, proportionate to the seriousness of the offenses committed.
Note: A person accused of committing a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a final court decision.
