Alexandru Munteanu could become the next Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova, TRIBUNA reports.
Igor Grosu, leader of the Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS), announced that PAS will wait for the Constitutional Court to validate the mandates of the newly elected deputies and for President Sandu to convene the parliamentary session. After the formation of parliamentary factions, they will present Alexandru Munteanu’s candidacy for the position of Prime Minister.
“Alexandru Munteanu is a Moldovan economist, university professor, and businessman, known for his work in the field of investments and his involvement in international educational and cultural projects. He is the founder of 4i Capital Partners and president of the French Alliance in the Republic of Moldova.
Since Mr. Munteanu has not been a public figure, it is important to understand his achievements and professional background. Born on January 20, 1964, in Chișinău, Alexandru Munteanu studied physics at university and worked at the Institute of Applied Physics of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova. Later, he joined the Technical University of Moldova as a senior lecturer in Theoretical Foundations of Electrotechnics and served as vice-dean of the International Faculty.
With the establishment of the National Bank of Moldova, Munteanu was appointed head of the Foreign Exchange Operations Division and later deputy director of the External Relations Department. He taught Banking and Finance at ULIM. He pursued postgraduate studies at Columbia University in New York, specializing in international relations, banking, and finance. After graduation, he worked at the World Bank in Washington, D.C.
Alexandru Munteanu is the founder and president of the French Alliance in Moldova, which he has led for over three decades. He is also one of the founders of AmCham Moldova (American Chamber of Commerce in Moldova).
In 1997, he returned to Moldova and became deputy director of the Center for Strategic Studies and Reforms (CISR). Later, he served as director of the Moldovan office of the Western NIS Enterprise Fund (WNISEF), and as member and/or chairman of the boards of numerous companies in Moldova and Ukraine.
Since 2007, he has led the Direct Investment Department of Dragon Capital (Ukraine). In 2016, he founded 4i Capital Partners, an investment company active in Eastern Europe.
He was a member and later co-chair of the Business Advisory Council under the Stability Pact (Vienna, Austria), and a member and chairman of the Board of Trustees of Pechersk School International (PSI) in Kyiv, an International Baccalaureate (IB) accredited institution.
For his work, he was awarded the title of Knight of the Legion of Honour (Légion d’Honneur) by the Republic of France in 2006,” stated Igor Grosu.
The PAS leader added that Moldova needs as many well-qualified people as possible, with extensive economic experience, to lead the country’s EU accession and economic development efforts: “We thank Mr. Munteanu, with his impressive career, for choosing to get involved when the country needs it most.”
