Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi held a meeting with the new Ambassador of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova, Iwona Piórko, who recently began her mandate in our country. During the discussions, both officials reaffirmed their shared commitment to maintaining an open and dynamic dialogue between the Republic of Moldova and the European Union — both in the context of the accession process and within the framework of bilateral cooperation in the fields of security and defense, reports TRIBUNA.
“Progress on the European path requires daily efforts from all institutions involved. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs remains firmly committed to maintaining positive momentum under Chapter 31 — Foreign, Security and Defense Policy, as well as to strengthening cooperation with the European Union in these areas,” emphasized Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi.
Minister Popșoi thanked the European Union for its continued support to the Republic of Moldova, including in strengthening institutional resilience, cybersecurity, and combating disinformation. The discussions also addressed the parliamentary elections held on September 28, during which Moldovan authorities successfully countered attempts of external interference.
Ambassador Iwona Piórko congratulated the authorities in Chișinău for the exemplary conduct of the elections despite external pressures and reiterated the European Union’s full support for Moldova’s advancement in the European integration process.
The talks also covered bilateral cooperation in the field of security and defense, including EU assistance to the National Crisis Management Center, as well as support in economic development and energy resilience.
In conclusion, both parties agreed to maintain constant dialogue and close coordination to advance the accession process and strengthen Moldova’s cooperation with the European Union in political, economic, and security domains.
