Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi held a meeting with the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, Kaja Kallas, TRIBUNA reports.
The two officials welcomed two significant developments for the Republic of Moldova this week: the launch of accession negotiations for Cluster 6, “External Relations,” and the approval of a new €120 million assistance package under the European Peace Facility (EPF). The package will help strengthen the country’s defense capabilities and resilience.
Their discussions focused on the priorities of the EU accession process, cooperation in the areas of foreign policy, security, and defense, as well as Moldova’s contribution to European security through alignment with the EU’s foreign and security policy, participation in Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) missions, and efforts to counter hybrid threats.
“The Republic of Moldova appreciates the European Union’s consistent support, which helps us advance on our path toward accession, strengthen our state institutions, and contribute, as a future EU Member State, to Europe’s security and stability,” Mihai Popșoi said.
Kaja Kallas reaffirmed the European Union’s strong support for the Republic of Moldova’s continued European integration and for strengthening cooperation in the areas of security and defense.
