Prime Minister: State institutions are acting to prevent interference by the Russian Federation in Moldova’s electoral process

State institutions are taking action to prevent interference by the Russian Federation in the electoral process of the Republic of Moldova and to combat schemes aimed at falsifying the September 28 vote. The announcement was made by Prime Minister Dorin Recean during a press conference held at the Government.

“Moldova is in the midst of an electoral campaign. Russia is also campaigning — but in our country. Their goal is to seize power in Chișinău, violating the sovereign will of Moldovans. The pressure is mounting, but I assure you: the Moldovan state stands firm. We are not just resisting — we are responding decisively and will thwart Russia’s occupation plan,” said Prime Minister Recean.

In his speech, the head of government spoke about the methods used by the Russian side to obstruct free and fair elections in Moldova. According to the Prime Minister, criminal groups trained in Serbia — linked to Russian services and political parties in Moldova — are involved in preparing mass unrest. Searches have uncovered weapons, batons, tents, tens of thousands of euros, and over 70 individuals have been detained.

Another method involves electoral bribery — a scheme implemented by the Șor network. The National Anticorruption Center is conducting 2,500 criminal investigations, dozens of people have been detained, and police have carried out over 600 searches in the past two months related to vote-buying and destabilization attempts.

The Prime Minister also spoke about cyberattacks targeting critical government infrastructure, page cloning, account hacking, and massive disinformation campaigns involving fake accounts and fabricated videos.

“This is not a normal electoral contest. It is a siege on our country. Russia is spending hundreds of millions of euros to buy votes in the September 28 elections. But our state will not allow vote theft to become an electoral coup,” the Prime Minister emphasized.

He further stated that authorities are prepared for any incidents — power outages, false bomb alerts, or other scenarios that could pressure state institutions. He urged polling station staff and observers to remain vigilant and act according to procedures, and voters to report violations to electoral offices.

“We cannot change what Russia does, but we can change what we do as a people. Let’s turn concern into mobilization and thoughtful action. Let’s fight back by disrupting their schemes. You have the power. The state stands with you, and you must stand with the state. This is the final battle for our country’s future, and I urge everyone to participate with an honest vote,” said Prime Minister Dorin Recean.
