The European Union has acknowledged significant progress made by the Government of the Republic of Moldova in the area of reforms and announced the disbursement of €18.9 million by the European Commission through the Reform and Growth Facility. The funds will be directed to the national budget to support activities outlined in the Growth Plan. According to Prime Minister Dorin Recean, the visit of the high-ranking EU official reaffirms the trusted partnership between the Republic of Moldova and the European Union.
“The progress made by Moldova is seen and appreciated in the EU, which allows us to move rapidly in the accession process,” stated Prime Minister Dorin Recean.
The €18.9 million adds to the €270 million in pre-financing already provided this year. Moldova is expected to benefit from up to €1.9 billion in grants and favorable loans between 2025 and 2027.
European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos praised Moldova’s swift advancement on the path to European integration. “The Republic of Moldova sends a strong signal of its commitment to implementing the reforms needed for economic growth and EU integration. We also encourage European investors to invest in Moldova — a country showing determination and sustained effort on its path to EU accession.”
Among the key achievements in Moldova–EU relations, Commissioner Kos highlighted during a press conference with Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov: the elimination of roaming charges starting January 1, 2026; Moldova’s integration into the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA); and a new trade regime offering expanded export opportunities for local producers.
Also today, the European Union issued a call to the business community to invest in Moldova, citing the country’s significant progress in implementing reforms. Access to the European market for Moldovan companies and products was discussed by the two officials, together with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization Doina Nistor and a group of entrepreneurs.
“Moldova has much to be proud of: talented people, well-trained specialists, and promising economic potential. We are ready to assert our place regionally and internationally. The diaspora, local companies, and international investors can find development opportunities in Moldova. Now, they also have a European support framework to turn ideas into competitive, successful businesses at home,” said Prime Minister Dorin Recean at the event.
Later in the day, Prime Minister Recean and Commissioner Kos visited the Bookfest International Book Fair, which opened yesterday in Chișinău. This is the eighth edition of the most important event dedicated to Romanian-language books in Moldova, bringing together publishers, renowned authors, and book lovers from both sides of the Prut River.
The officials spoke with visitors and publishing representatives and purchased books. The Bookfest International Book Fair in Chișinău will remain open until Sunday, offering a rich program of book launches, autograph sessions, and author debates.
