President Maia Sandu met with the OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities, Christophe Kamp, who is visiting the Republic of Moldova, TRIBUNA reports.
The Head of State reiterated that protecting the rights of persons belonging to different ethnic groups and strengthening social cohesion remain key priorities. She underlined that Moldova’s accession to the European Union is the best guarantee for the rights of all citizens, regardless of ethnicity or language, as it will bring stronger institutions and equal opportunities. In this context, the President highlighted the progress achieved over the past year in multilingual education and social inclusion, carried out in cooperation with the Office of the High Commissioner.
The two officials also discussed the situation in the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia. President Sandu stressed the importance of holding free and fair elections in the region and ensuring a healthy information environment. She also underlined that the reform of local public administration does not affect the special autonomous status guaranteed by the Constitution. Additionally, the President noted that the specific character of Taraclia district will be respected.
In conclusion, both interlocutors reaffirmed their commitment to continuing cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and the OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities.
