Agreement signed with Greece. Deputy Prime Minister Osmochescu: “It reflects strong and efficient cooperation between Chișinău and Athens”

Deputy Prime Minister Eugeniu Osmochescu is on a working visit to Athens at the invitation of Greece’s Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Haris Theoharis, TRIBUNA reports.

During the visit, Osmochescu and Theoharis signed an intergovernmental agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the Hellenic Republic on technical assistance, support for institutional reforms, and capacity‑building. The agreement aims to facilitate technical assistance projects linked to Moldova’s European integration efforts, with Greece set to support the effective use and absorption of external assistance.

Deputy Minister Haris Theoharis stated that Greece is pursuing “modern and active economic diplomacy with measurable results,” adding that the agreement helps export expertise, strengthen institutions, and contribute to partners’ development and European trajectory.

The agreement further strengthens bilateral relations and highlights Greece’s active role in supporting reforms and development initiatives internationally.

Deputy Prime Minister Osmochescu described the agreement as an important milestone demonstrating a shared commitment to high‑impact reforms and “strong and efficient cooperation between Chișinău and Athens.” He emphasized that the agreement provides a practical framework for turning progress into tangible results for citizens and the economy, noting that its rapid finalization reflects Moldova’s capacity to act decisively.

In discussions with Greek officials, Osmochescu highlighted the importance of expanding Moldovan‑Greek trade relations. In 2025, Greece ranked 23rd among Moldova’s trade partners, with Moldovan exports reaching USD 81.5 million (+22.7%) and imports USD 77 million (+14.8%), resulting in a positive trade balance of USD 4.4 million.

Greek companies also showed interest during an economic mission held in Chișinău on 1–3 March 2026, with shared areas of potential cooperation including infrastructure, construction, industry, energy, and logistics. Greek corporations were invited to upcoming business events in Chișinău to advance investment discussions.

The visit also served to advance Moldova’s European agenda, prepare proposals for the next Moldovan‑Greek intergovernmental commission meeting planned for 2027, and outline the action plan for implementing the newly signed agreement.
