The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mihai Popșoi, had a meeting with MEP Sven Mikser, permanent rapporteur for the Republic of Moldova within the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs (AFET), who is on a working visit to Chișinău, TRIBUNA reports.
The discussions focused on the developments in our country’s EU accession process, the priorities for advancing the assumed agenda, with emphasis on continuing reforms and making use of EU support. In this regard, the importance of parliamentary cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and the European Union was reaffirmed, as well as the signing of the renewed Memorandum of Understanding, which contributes to strengthening institutional capacities and supports the alignment of the legislature in Chișinău with EU standards.
Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi thanked the European Parliament for its support in promoting our country’s European integration path, including through the Growth Plan for Moldova, a package worth €1.9 billion aimed at supporting reforms and accelerating economic development – the largest financial support ever granted by the EU to our country.
At the same time, the head of Moldovan diplomacy expressed gratitude for the constant contribution of the EU legislature to strengthening democratic resilience against external interference and advancing reforms in the field of the rule of law.
“Support from European institutions makes us more responsible to continue reforms and deliver concrete results for citizens. Despite the security and economic challenges generated by Russia’s war against Ukraine, we remain committed to advancing on the path of EU accession, based on our own merits,” said Mihai Popșoi.
In turn, Sven Mikser appreciated the progress made by the Republic of Moldova and underlined the importance of the European Parliament’s Office, inaugurated in November 2025 in Chișinău, for strengthening interinstitutional dialogue and supporting the authorities in the process of rapprochement with the European Union.
In addition to the European agenda, the parties also discussed the regional security situation, including joint efforts to strengthen stability and peace on the continent.
