Igor Dodon: “If you truly want to overcome the crisis, return to rational solutions, including purchasing electricity from Cuciurgan”

An extraordinary session of Parliament was convened with a single item on the agenda — the Government’s request to establish a state of emergency across the entire country for 60 days, TRIBUNA reports.

Igor Dodon, President of the PSRM parliamentary faction, stated in a social media post that in recent months the Socialists have repeatedly requested that responsible Government representatives come to Parliament to present a report on the situation in the energy sector. According to him, all PSRM requests were rejected.

“We have also consistently stressed the need to resume electricity purchases from Cuciurgan. The Government ignored this proposal as well.

Today, however, the authorities are requesting the introduction of a state of emergency. We cannot support this.

Previously, the governments led by Natalia Gavrilița and Dorin Recean already introduced a state of emergency. It was during that period that serious abuses were committed: tens of billions of lei were misappropriated, and gas and electricity purchases were carried out non‑transparently, at inflated prices or even under secret conditions.

And now the Government is once again seeking to expand its powers.

If you truly want to overcome the crisis, return to rational solutions, including purchasing electricity from Cuciurgan. Instead, you refuse dialogue and attempt to obtain additional powers that may not be used in the interest of citizens.

We cannot support this.

At the same time, as I have stated before, we remain open to constructive dialogue with partners in order to help improve people’s lives,” Igor Dodon underlined.
