Today marks four years since the synchronization of the National Power System with the European continental grid ENTSO‑E, TRIBUNA reports.
According to the Ministry of Energy, the synchronization has strengthened the energy security of the Republic of Moldova and advanced the integration of the national electricity system into the European energy space.
“Synchronization with ENTSO‑E was even more important for the energy security and independence of the Republic of Moldova than diversifying natural gas supply sources,” said Dorin Junghietu, Minister of Energy.
The minister also noted that “this allowed us to maintain system stability when Russia was bombing Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and to move forward with other major reforms, including those with long‑term impact. Previously, Moldova’s energy system was the ‘end of the line’ of the former Soviet IPS/UPS system, and the country could import electricity either only from Ukraine or only from Romania. Now, however, the system can operate synchronously with both countries, making it significantly more stable.”
