Court of Accounts Marks 31 Years of Integrity, Transparency, and Responsibility in Public Service

The Court of Accounts of the Republic of Moldova (CCRM) celebrates today 31 years of activity – three decades of strengthening external public audit, promoting good governance, and contributing directly to the country’s democratic and European development.

Founded on December 8, 1994, the Supreme Audit Institution has become a pillar of accountability and transparency in managing public finances, ensuring that the use of state resources fully serves the public interest.

In line with international standards, the CCRM carries out its mandate with the mission of safeguarding public funds, promoting integrity and efficiency in administration, and fostering citizens’ trust in state institutions.

At the heart of the Court’s evolution are its people – auditors and specialized staff whose continuous professional development and dedicated work have enabled the institution to achieve high performance standards. The success of the CCRM is owed to a professional team capable of delivering rigorous analyses and recommendations with real impact on the management of public funds.

Over the years, the CCRM has developed a solution-oriented audit practice, where irregularities are not only identified but also corrected during missions through constructive dialogue with audited entities. The institution’s recommendations have contributed to improving legislation, strengthening internal controls, modernizing financial reporting, and increasing transparency in public institutions.

“A central chapter of recent years is the role of the Court of Accounts in the European integration process. By aligning with European audit standards, conducting independent evaluations, and maintaining constant cooperation with institutions and international partners, the CCRM supports the transformations needed to consolidate the rule of law. Activities related to the accession process have become a priority, as European integration is not only a strategic objective but also an opportunity for profound modernization of public administration, greater transparency, and sustainable development.”

Marking the Day of the Court of Accounts is also a moment to look ahead. Through consistent application of international standards, the professionalism of its auditors, and ongoing cooperation with national and international partners, the Court of Accounts will continue to contribute to good governance, efficient use of public resources, and strengthened citizen trust in the state – promoting stability and sustainable development in the Republic of Moldova.
