SIS marks 35 years: Parliament Speaker says security risks have increased significantly and the SIS mission has become even more complex

Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu congratulated the employees of the Intelligence and Security Service (SIS), which marked 35 years since its establishment. Igor Grosu wished the officers, non-commissioned officers, and all employees strength of character and courage in carrying out the extremely important mission entrusted to them, TRIBUNA reports.

“In recent years, security risks have increased significantly, and the SIS mission has become even more complex. The war in Ukraine has shown us how quickly the security environment can change. We face traditional threats — such as espionage, terrorism, illegal migration, and organized crime — as well as new threats, including cyberattacks, disinformation, and propaganda.

These are threats that do not wait. We must anticipate and understand them and, where possible, prevent them. Here, I would like to thank SIS officers for the vigilance, courage, and responsibility with which they act in a context marked by uncertainty and unprecedented dangers,” Igor Grosu said.

The Parliament Speaker also referred to this year’s August 27 parade, during which the Service demonstrated that it is modernizing with state-of-the-art equipment. These upgrades mean a more professional working environment for Service employees and better preparedness for our country to face emerging challenges.

“As the Republic of Moldova advances in the European integration process, SIS will have to actively participate in joint efforts to counter cross-border threats. The Republic of Moldova must not be perceived exclusively as a security beneficiary. Our country must become a relevant provider of expertise and a credible partner within the European security architecture,” Igor Grosu further stated.
