Parliament hosted the 16th PAC RM–EU Meeting: “The Republic of Moldova has made important progress...”

The Parliament of the Republic of Moldova hosted the 16th Meeting of the Parliamentary Association Committee Moldova – European Union (PAC RM–EU). During the event, PAC RM–EU members discussed the current state of Moldova’s EU accession negotiations, as well as the country’s geopolitical and security situation. A joint declaration containing a set of recommendations was later adopted, TRIBUNA reports.

The document refers to the parliamentary elections held in Moldova this autumn. The authors of the Declaration noted the preparedness, coordination, and resilience of Moldova’s authorities, supported by the EU and its member states, which safeguarded the integrity of the electoral process and public trust.

PAC RM–EU members also highlighted Moldova’s progress in the EU accession process and the completion of the bilateral screening in record time. “It is noted that, according to the Commission’s assessment, Moldova has fulfilled the necessary conditions for opening clusters one (Fundamental Values), six (External Relations), and two (Internal Market), and it is expected that Moldova will meet the conditions for opening the remaining three clusters before the end of 2025,” the Declaration states.

MEPs further welcomed the establishment of the Parliamentary Committee for European Integration in Moldova’s Parliament, stressing that this decision reflects the country’s firm political commitment to advancing towards EU membership. The decision to open a permanent European Parliament office in Chișinău was also praised.

After the meeting, the co-chairs of the PAC RM–EU, Marcel Spatari and Siegfried Mureșan, made press statements. They announced that six joint working groups will be set up for each of the six negotiation clusters, involving the European Parliament and Moldova’s Parliament, to provide Moldovan MPs with specialized expertise.

“The main message conveyed from this Meeting is that the Republic of Moldova has made important progress in the European integration process and must accelerate the pace of transposing European standards into national legislation in order to achieve the accession goal as quickly as possible,” declared Marcel Spatari.

“The Republic of Moldova is the candidate country that, over the past year, has made the greatest progress across all negotiation chapters. The European Parliament will continue to stand by Moldovan citizens and support Moldova’s integration into the EU,” emphasized the MEP.
