The “Democracy at Home” Party Will Not Vote for the Munteanu Government: It’s Clear It Will Be Controlled from Elsewhere

The “Democracy at Home” party stated that the ministerial proposals made by the designated prime minister have strengthened their conviction not to vote in Parliament for the investiture of Alexandru Munteanu’s government, after already announcing their rejection of his nomination, reports TRIBUNA.

The party claims it is evident the government will be controlled from elsewhere, as the prime minister could not have known the proposed candidates.

“These ministerial candidates were handed to the designated prime minister as a list. How could the new prime minister know the NGO activists and second-tier figures of the Maia Sandu – Dorin Recean regime, when he has been abroad for over 20 years?

As is already apparent, the Alexandru Munteanu government will be accountable to the Presidency of the Republic of Moldova, even though the Constitution states that the government is accountable to Parliament.

We, as MPs, have the duty to defend parliamentary democracy and the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova. We regret the return of the ‘vertical power’ era of Vladimir Voronin and Vlad Plahotniuc,” the party said.

They also expressed regret that the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS), despite winning a parliamentary majority, is trying to avoid political responsibility by supporting a so-called technocratic prime minister with no political affiliation, along with a list of ministers who are not party members.

“The fact that PAS itself does not want to politically assume this so-called technocratic cabinet shows that PAS does not believe in its success and that it will be a sacrificial government. PAS is playing ‘hide-and-seek with the country.’

The Democracy at Home party believes that in the difficult economic situation—caused by PAS governance—it is irresponsible to appoint people with no real experience in their respective fields to the cabinet.

The Alexandru Munteanu government will be the worst in the history of the Republic of Moldova—politically unaccountable, filled with NGO figures as ministers, and accountable not to Parliament but to the Presidency, contrary to constitutional provisions,” the party added.
