A notable element of the parliamentary elections held on September 28, 2025, was the mobilization of young voters aged 18 to 25 from outside Chișinău, which directly influenced support for one electoral contender. However, the opposite trend was observed in the capital, where youth turnout was insufficient, confirming a structural issue in urban mobilization. These findings were presented by Veaceslav Ioniță, economic policy expert at IDIS “Viitorul,” during his weekly show “Economic Analyses with Veaceslav Ioniță,” as reported by TRIBUNA.
The expert noted that voters aged 18 to 25 typically have a turnout rate of 45–50%, with a maximum of 54%, but in the September 28 elections, their participation reached around 58%, which benefited a political party that entered Parliament.
“In all age groups, turnout rates remained consistent. Voter behavior is nearly the same. There was a slight decline among those aged 56 to 75. Rural residents did not vote as massively as in previous elections, which also posed a challenge for one electoral contender. This time, young people set a record. We had a very strong turnout among those aged 18 to 25. Youth turnout in Chișinău was 50%, while outside the capital it reached 58%,” concluded Veaceslav Ioniță.
