Prime Minister Vasile Tofan met at the Government with 144 young people currently doing internships in the public sector. The young people are participating in the joint internship programme of the Government and the European Union, which is preparing a new generation of civil servants who will contribute to the modernization of public administration, TRIBUNA reports.

Eighty-five of the young people are part of the Government’s paid public sector internship programme, while another 59 interns are enrolled in the European Union’s similar programme. Both programmes are now in their sixth edition.

The Prime Minister spoke about his professional career, which also began with internships in the public sector, and praised the young people’s involvement:

“Thank you for being interested in a potential career in the public sector. I don’t think there is a field where you can have a greater impact and satisfaction,” the Prime Minister said.

The head of government discussed with the young interns the specifics of working in the public sector, economic reforms, ways to attract more investment to the Republic of Moldova, and measures to combat corruption.

At the same time, the young people showed interest in the country’s European path.

“We have covered in a short period of time a path that many states took several years to complete, and if we continue to progress just as well, we will sign the Accession Treaty in 2028,” the Prime Minister said, noting that the decision to enlarge the European Union belongs to the member states.

Since the launch of the Government’s paid public sector internship programme three years ago, 262 young people have successfully completed the programme. Of these, 55 former interns have started careers in public administration, while 65 programme graduates are part of the civil service reserve.

Participants in the internship programmes have the opportunity to learn how public administration works, work alongside civil servants, and take part in various training sessions. They receive a monthly stipend, while graduates who successfully complete the internship and receive a “very good” rating from their mentors may enter the public service without a competitive examination and without a probationary period.
