A new round of interministerial political consultations between the Republic of Moldova and Japan took place in Chișinău. The Moldovan delegation was led by Sergiu Mihov, State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, while the Japanese delegation was headed by Ambassador Masaki Ishikawa, Deputy Assistant Minister for European Affairs, TRIBUNA reports.
The two sides reviewed the current state of bilateral cooperation and discussed prospects for expanding it in areas such as economy and trade, healthcare, cybersecurity, education, and research. Officials reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthening the Moldova–Japan partnership.
The importance of enhancing economic ties was emphasized, including through business missions, Japanese investments in Chișinău, and Japan’s ongoing support via the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in agriculture, health, finance, and media.
The consultations also addressed cooperation within international organizations, regional and global developments, and firm support for Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
The next round of interministerial political consultations will take place in 2026, following the previous round held in Tokyo in 2024.
