The National Anticorruption Center (NAC), in cooperation with the Prosecutor’s Office of Bălți municipality, is conducting over 70 searches this morning across the Republic of Moldova, including in Chișinău, as part of a criminal investigation into suspected aggravated illegal financing of political entities, reports TRIBUNA.
Preliminary investigations have revealed reasonable suspicion regarding the actions of a group of individuals believed to have implemented a coordinated criminal plan during the pre-election period leading up to the parliamentary elections scheduled for September 28, 2025. Among those targeted are decision-makers affiliated with political parties, members, and supporters who allegedly devised a scheme to bring illicit funds into the country to illegally support political parties, initiative groups, and electoral competitors.
Following the searches, authorities seized financial assets in various currencies, data storage devices, draft documents, and other materials relevant to the investigation. Criminal proceedings are ongoing, and the NAC and prosecutors will provide further updates as the investigation progresses.
The NAC encourages citizens to report suspicious actions related to electoral corruption and reminds the public of two dedicated phone lines for reporting voter bribery, illegal party financing, attempts to unlawfully influence voting, and other suspicious electoral activities. The NAC Hotline – +373 78 710 116 – is available 24/7, including from abroad via audio/video calls, SMS, and apps like Viber, Signal, Telegram, and WhatsApp. The National Anticorruption Line – 0800 55555 – is toll-free within Moldova.
According to the law, every individual is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a final and irrevocable court decision.
