The development priorities of the Balti municipality and Moldova’s northern region, the problems faced by local residents, as well as solutions that need to be accelerated at government level have been were discussed at a meeting between Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu and representatives of the local public administration and deconcentrated services of the city.

The PM emphasized that the municipality of Balti and the northern area of the country had very high potential and that, through close cooperation between the government and local authorities, a new level of development can be achieved. “Our success, the government’s success is possible only through close cooperation with local authorities,” the prime minister stressed.

Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu referred to the experience of efficiently managing the crisis related to the pollution of the Dniester River. “I am happy that I returned in a more positive context than last time. At that time, we reacted to a crisis and, indeed, I am glad that we managed it together, in a professional manner, we limited the consequences of Dniester’s pollution and returned to normal life in a short period of time,” said Prime Minister Munteanu.

The discussions focused on investments in the region and infrastructure development, including the road network and railways, as well as the implementation of projects aimed at improving people’s lives through investments in health, education and the environment. Important projects are also being carried out for energy efficiency, the use of renewable energy and the modernization of energy infrastructure.

The talks also addressed the main problems of the local administration and residents. They include the situation of the municipal enterprise Apa-Canal Balti, the management of the Tambula waste landfill, road repairs, the shortage of design specialists and the unblocking of certain cross-border cooperation projects.

As for the economic development, the participants noted the intention to attract new investments, including in the Balti Free Economic Zone (FEZ) and industrial parks, as well as to grow local businesses. “We, as a government, are developing infrastructure. On the other hand, we must create as many viable projects as possible, with modern technologies, in order to retain our young people,” the prime minister added.
