The President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, was awarded the 2025 Reinhard Mohn Prize, awarded by the Bertelsmann Foundation, in recognition of her efforts to consolidate democracy, promote the rule of law and modernize Moldova. The distinction is accompanied by a prize worth 100,000 euros, an amount that the head of state announced she would donate for development projects in her native village, Risipeni, Fălești district, TRIBUNA informs.
During the award ceremony, held in Gütersloh, in the presence of German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, the head of state emphasized that this award is not only a recognition of her activity, but also a tribute to all citizens of the Republic of Moldova who, through their work and dedication, contribute to building a free, prosperous and democratic country.
“Every day, Moldovans support a stronger, free and democratic Moldova. Their effort is also recognized by our international partners. This award is about people and communities, about the courage to believe in a better future. That’s why I decided to donate the amount related to this award for development projects in my native village, Risipeni”, said President Maia Sandu.
In his speech, the President of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, emphasized that “Moldova is a small country, but with a big heart, and the determination and courage of President Maia Sandu are appreciated globally. Germany will continue to support Moldova on its way to joining the European Union.”
