Intelligence Service marks 31 years since foundation

Today Intelligence and Security Service marks 31st anniversary. On this occasion, director Alexandru Musteata conveyed a message thanking the officers for the effort made day by day to defend the security and national interests of the Republic of Moldova.

The message reads that the institution is currently “in a complex process of identifying the role and place of the SIS in the national security system and reaffirming the institutional values. The transformations we propose are necessary to be able to respond to new challenges, but above all, to anticipate the evolution of the security environment”.

“The tasks before us become even more difficult, as a result of the significant increase in risks to some of the country’s strategic interests and objectives, amplified by Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine and its collateral effects in the Republic of Moldova. We will have to find appropriate solutions for atypical problems, develop new information capabilities in sensitive areas, such as: counter-espionage, territorial integrity, cross-border threats, economic security, cyber security, protection of classified information, prevention and combating terrorism and last but not least – defense constitutional rights and values”, the message reads.

On 9 September 1991, by a presidential decree, the State Security Committee of the Republic of Moldova was abolished, and the Ministry of National Security was created on its basis.
