PM meets U.S. ambassador to Moldova

The prospects for advancement of Moldovan – American relations were discussed at the meeting of Prime Minister, Pavel Filip, and U.S. Ambassador to Moldova, James Pettit, today. The officials reviewed evolutions of bilateral strategic dialogue and exchanged views upon priorities of Executive, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

Regarding it, PM spoke about implementation of Programme with International Monetary Fund (IMF), noting that in the context of the evaluation mission, held on 15 – 27 March 2018, IMF would be able to make a detailed analysis of recent developments within national economy. The Prime Minister also reiterated that authorities have remained committed to fulfilling conditionality to obtain macro – financial assistance from EU.

In other range of ideas, Pavel Filip said that a key objective was to continue reforming judiciary and ensuring transparency of the judiciary and anti – corruption institutions. Among most important actions planned on it, might be drafting of laws to strengthen judiciary, as well as a mechanism for assessing integrity of judges.

At his turn, James Pettit encouraged authorities to continue reforms’ implementation, reaffirming US support in realisation of programmes for modernisation of Moldova. The officials also referred to the Transnistrian conflict settlement process, emphasizing the need to continue negotiations in format 5+2, during the talks.
