The parliament today took note of the resignation of the director of Moldova’s Intelligence and Security Service (SIS), Vitalie Pirlog.    

Vitalie Pirlog submitted the application on resignation from office on 19 February. In the application, the official wrote that he withdrew from the position of SIS director to devote himself to the work on INTERPOL’s dimension.

The parliament appointed Vitalie Pirlog as director of the Intelligence and Security Service for a five-year period in December 2017.

Pirlog was put forward for this post by the parliamentary majority and his candidacy was backed by the parliament on 21 December 2017.

Vitalie Pirlog is jurist, specialized in the international law. During his career, Pirlog was Moldovan government’s representative at the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), member of the Council of Europe’s Steering Committee for Human Rights (CDDH), member of the Council of Europe’s European Commission for the Efficiency of Justice, member of the Committee of Experts for the Improvement of Procedures for the Protection of  Human Rights of Council of Europe’s CDDH, head of Moldova’s delegation to the Council of Europe’s European Committee on Crime Problems. Starting from April 2017, Pirlog has been holding the position of head of INTERPOL’s Commission for the Control of Files.

In 2006, Vitalie Pirlog was appointed Justice Minister and on 14-25 September 2009, he was acting prime minister of Moldova.
