National Wine Day Sets Several New Records

The 25th edition of National Wine Day concluded with record-breaking results. After the Republic of Moldova entered Guinness World Records for the largest human representation of a grapevine, the anniversary edition also set new participation records: 114 wineries gathered in Great National Assembly Square, 14,000 wine-tasting passports were purchased, and more than 110,000 tastings were recorded over the two-day event, TRIBUNA reports, citing the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry.

The number of tasting passports purchased increased by approximately 55% compared with the 2025 edition, when more than 9,000 were sold. At the same time, the number of tastings was more than 30% higher than the approximately 84,000 recorded last year.

Held on October 3 and 4 under the slogan “Wine That Unites Us,” the anniversary edition marked 25 years of National Wine Day and brought together producers, industry professionals, locals, and tourists from more than 70 countries who came to discover Moldovan Wine.

This year, the figures were collected in real time through a new digital system that enables QR codes on the Wine Tasting Passport to be activated and allows participants to directly rate the wines they tasted.

This year’s data point to continued growth in public interest in Moldovan Wine. While 106 wineries participated in 2025, the number reached 114 at the 25th edition. Meanwhile, the number of tastings increased from 84,647 to 116,880, representing 32,233 more tastings than last year.

The anniversary edition also introduced a new feature to the visitor experience: the opportunity to directly rate the wines tasted. Through the new digital platform, approximately 2,500 people submitted wine reviews over the two days. The Wine Tasting Passport included 10 tastings, while participants who submitted seven reviews of the wines they tasted could receive two additional tastings.

The mechanism encouraged visitors to engage more with the wines they tasted while also enabling organizers to collect direct feedback on Moldovan Wine.

White Wines Remain the Most Popular

Data collected over the two days show that white wines retained the top position among public preferences, with 44,686 tastings, compared with 30,763 in 2025.

Red wines recorded 34,658 tastings, compared with 29,931 last year, while sparkling wines reached 21,022 tastings, up from 13,199 in 2025 — an increase of more than 59%.

Rosé wines also gained ground, with 12,587 tastings compared with 7,733 at the previous edition, representing an increase of approximately 63%. Divin recorded 3,927 tastings, compared with 3,021 in 2025.

Thus, all five categories recorded increases compared with the previous edition, while the total number of tastings surpassed the 100,000 mark for the first time.

25th Edition Brings a Guinness World Records Title to Moldova

The participation records followed the Republic of Moldova’s official entry into Guinness World Records on the first day of the celebration. A total of 493 people formed the world’s largest human representation of a grapevine in Great National Assembly Square. The moment became one of the defining symbols of the anniversary edition and an embodiment of the slogan “Wine That Unites Us.”

In 2026, National Wine Day also moved beyond its traditional setting in Great National Assembly Square. After 25 editions, National Wine Day remains the largest celebration dedicated to Moldova’s wine sector and one of the country’s main platforms for promoting the national wine brand, “Wine of Moldova. Surprisingly Good.”

National Wine Day is organized annually by the National Office for Vine and Wine.
