The hydrological situation on the Dniester River and the significant decline in available water resources were discussed at an extraordinary meeting of the Dniester Commission, reports TRIBUNA.

The difficult hydrological situation that has persisted in the upper reaches of the river for several months has led to an unprecedented drop in water levels in the Dniester. As a result, in some Ukrainian settlements, water is already being supplied according to a schedule, during specific hours.

“The Ukrainian side informed us that it is unable to release water in volumes exceeding the inflow into the reservoir, in order to prevent the depletion of reserves and a complete interruption of water supply to settlements that are already affected.

The minimum release volume that had been maintained until now can no longer be ensured, given that over the past two weeks, the natural inflow into the Dniester Reservoir has been 27 m³/s.

An increase in the reservoir’s water level and, consequently, an increase in water releases toward the Republic of Moldova now depend on precipitation in the upper part of the river basin,” the Commission said.
