The Ministry of Environment has announced that severe hydrological conditions are also affecting the Prut River, TRIBUNA reports.

According to Environment Minister Gheorghe Hajder, since the beginning of September, an average of 14 m³/s of water has flowed into the Costești–Stânca reservoir, while the average outflow has been approximately 26 m³/s. In other words, 32.23 million m³ of water flowed into the reservoir, while 58.83 million m³ was released.

“Therefore, a decision was made to reduce the volume of water discharged into the Prut River to 14 m³/s, given that only 72 centimetres remain before the water reaches the level at which it can no longer be released through the hydro-technical system.

We note that on September 1, 2026, the water level in the reservoir was 83.5 metres. Today, it is 82.22 metres. In approximately one month, the reservoir has lost 1.28 metres.

This measure is necessary to preserve the water reserve in the reservoir. Our priority is to ensure the water supply for citizens. The Prut is the main source of water for several localities in the districts of Glodeni, Fălești, Leova, Ungheni, Cahul and Cantemir.

We will monitor the situation and adjust the operating regime depending on changes in water levels and flow rates,” the official added.
