A new round of talks between representatives of the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine was held within the framework of the Dniester Commission regarding the water discharge regime from the Novodnistrovsk Reservoir, TRIBUNA reports.
During the consultations, the Ukrainian side initially proposed that the volume of water discharged toward the Republic of Moldova should be equivalent to the amount actually flowing into the Novodnistrovsk Reservoir, namely an average flow rate of approximately 22 m³/s. The Moldovan side did not accept the proposal, as it would entail an excessively abrupt reduction in the downstream flow, which is currently maintained at approximately 60 m³/s.
As the discussions require further consultations, the parties agreed to continue the dialogue in the coming days in order to identify a balanced solution acceptable to both sides.
The Ministry of Environment, together with the responsible institutions, continues to monitor the situation and prevent an abrupt reduction in the downstream water flow, which could affect the water supply for the population, the functioning of aquatic ecosystems, and the hydrological balance of the Dniester River.
