Prime Minister Vasile Tofan attended the Kyiv International Economic Forum, where he spoke about the resilience of the Ukrainian economy, investment opportunities, and the Republic of Moldova’s role in strengthening regional economic ties, TRIBUNA reports.
In his speech, the Prime Minister highlighted the ability of Ukrainian entrepreneurs to continue developing businesses, investing, and innovating despite the war and Russia’s systematic attacks on energy, industrial, and logistics infrastructure.
“For many years, I believed in Ukraine as an investor. Today, I believe in Ukraine’s economic future as a neighbor and a friend. Not because I underestimate the risks, but because I know the people who are building that future. I am convinced that once peace comes, investors will want to take part in the recovery of the Ukrainian economy,” the Prime Minister stated.
The Prime Minister reaffirmed the Republic of Moldova’s support for Ukraine and expressed gratitude to Ukrainian soldiers who, by defending their country, also contribute to Moldova’s security. He emphasized that solidarity between the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine must also be reflected in concrete measures to support the Ukrainian economy.
“We have decided to grant a 50% reduction in rail transit tariffs for Ukrainian goods transported through the Republic of Moldova. It was not an easy decision. But friendship is not measured by declarations. It is demonstrated through decisions,” the head of government stressed.
At the same time, the Prime Minister expressed the Republic of Moldova’s willingness to cooperate with Ukraine on modernizing infrastructure, reducing border crossing times, and developing new logistics routes. Another area of cooperation involves establishing logistics hubs and storage facilities in the Republic of Moldova together with Ukrainian companies, helping to maintain supply chains and Ukrainian exports.
The Prime Minister invited Ukrainian entrepreneurs to take advantage of investment opportunities in the Republic of Moldova, particularly in manufacturing and logistics. He highlighted Moldova’s potential to become a gateway to the Romanian and Balkan markets, thanks to its geographical proximity, infrastructure, and existing economic ties.
In this context, Vasile Tofan emphasized that the Government aims to make the Republic of Moldova more attractive to investors by simplifying procedures, improving administrative efficiency, and ensuring a predictable business environment.
The Prime Minister also referred to the shared European future of the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine, emphasizing the importance of continuing reforms, strengthening institutions, and fostering economic development:
“Ukraine needs the European Union. But the European Union also needs Ukraine. Its industry, its technologies, its entrepreneurs. Its experience, strength, and indomitable spirit. Europe will be stronger with Ukraine by its side.”
