National Bureau of Statistics Launches International Merchandise Trade Portal

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has launched the “International Merchandise Trade” Portal — https://comext.statistica.md — following a public-access testing period. The portal provides users with an interactive and accessible tool for exploring statistical data on the Republic of Moldova’s international trade in goods, reports TRIBUNA.

The portal allows users to generate customized statistical tables by selecting and combining an extensive range of variables and statistical classifications. Users can analyze data by trade flow (exports, imports, exports of domestic goods, re-exports and re-imports), reference period (year, quarter and month), partner country, country groups, mode of transport, as well as other available criteria.

Data can also be selected and analyzed according to the main classifications used in international merchandise trade statistics: the Combined Nomenclature of Goods (CN), the Standard International Trade Classification (SITC), and the Classification by Broad Economic Categories (BEC).

Users can also combine analytical variables and select the currency in which value indicators are expressed: Moldovan lei, euros, or US dollars. Generated tables can be viewed and downloaded in Excel and CSV formats for further data analysis.

The portal provides access to international merchandise trade statistics dating back to 2010, compiled on the basis of customs declarations provided by the Customs Service.

The portal operated in testing mode from August 4 to September 4, 2026, allowing the functionality of the platform to be assessed and user feedback on the new visualization tool to be collected. Following suggestions received during the testing period, the portal underwent functional improvements and adjustments. These included the introduction of country-group selection (EU, CIS and other countries) among the additional options, as well as the addition of methodological clarifications.
