The Full Volume of Natural Gas Needed for the 2026–2027 Heating Season Has Been Purchased

S.A. Energocom announced that, to date, it has purchased approximately 76% of the total volume of natural gas needed to cover consumption during the 2026–2027 gas year (October 1, 2026 – September 30, 2027), TRIBUNA reports.

As part of this process, the company has fully secured the volume of natural gas needed to cover projected consumption during the heating season from October 2026 through March 2027, amounting to 3,832,693 MWh. The contracted volume will be delivered throughout the winter period, thereby ensuring the projected requirements for the cold season.

In total, since the procurement process began in July, 24 auction rounds have been held, with 11 companies from Romania, Austria, Bulgaria, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Malta, Germany and Greece participating. Of these, 23 rounds were successfully completed.

To ensure transparency and fairness throughout the procurement process, representatives of the Ministry of Energy, the Public Property Agency, the Prime Minister’s Office, the Intelligence and Security Service, and civil society were invited to and participated in all auctions.

In parallel, the company will carry out the necessary purchases to meet its natural gas storage obligation by November 1, 2026, in accordance with the decision establishing the natural gas storage requirement for the 2026–2027 cold season.

The storage obligation amounts to 15% of the total projected volume for a gas year, which for S.A. Energocom represents approximately 134.5 million cubic meters of natural gas. Part of this volume has already been secured, and the gas will be stored in neighboring countries that have storage facilities.

It should be noted that gas is contracted in advance through forward-type products, which makes it possible to secure the volumes required for the consumption months. The final price is not established when the contract is signed; instead, it is calculated later based on a formula indexed to the TTF Front Month index published by Argus Media for the month preceding delivery.

Thus, the price is determined based on a public and verifiable European benchmark index that is beyond the influence of the contracting parties.

All purchases were made in accordance with the procurement strategy approved by the Board of Directors of S.A. Energocom and the natural gas procurement procedure approved by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).
