The Republic of Moldova will mark the 35th anniversary of its declaration of independence with a nationwide program bringing together cultural, educational, commemorative, and celebratory events through December 2026. The government has approved the “Independence That Unites Us. Moldova-35” program, which includes more than 20 events to be held both in Moldova and abroad, TRIBUNA reports.

“The celebration of 35 years of independence is a unique opportunity for the entire society to unite around shared values and common goals, regardless of language or ethnicity. Independence Day belongs to all Moldovans. We invite all citizens, young and old alike, to take part in the activities organized by the Ministry of Culture and other state institutions,” Culture Minister Dan Suruceanu said.

As is customary, the main Independence Day celebrations will take place on August 27 in Chișinău’s Great National Assembly Square and will include a military parade. The program also features the Great National Dictation on August 31, along with exhibitions, documentary projects, and youth-focused initiatives running through the end of the year.

The program further предусматривает the issuance of a commemorative coin and a special series of postage stamps, as well as the National Award Gala, the Maria Bieșu International Opera and Ballet Festival, the European Heritage Days, and the “Covorul Dorului” National Carpet Fair.

School and university students will also take part in activities dedicated to Moldova’s history and national values. The new academic year will begin on September 1 with the “Independence Lesson,” while schools will host themed events as part of the National Values Decade.

Overall, the program includes more than 20 initiatives commemorating this historic milestone. The events will be implemented with the participation of central and local authorities, cultural institutions, academia, and civil society organizations, with the aim of strengthening national identity, promoting Moldova’s cultural heritage, and increasing the country’s international visibility.
