President Maia Sandu held a meeting with a bipartisan delegation of members of the United States Senate, composed of Senators Ted Budd, John Barrasso, Tim Kaine, and Alan Armstrong. The delegation brings together senators from both parties — Republican and Democrat — reflecting the cross‑party support that the Republic of Moldova enjoys in the U.S. Congress, TRIBUNA reports.
The President congratulated the United States on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. She noted that this year, the Republic of Moldova marks 35 years of independence and that, throughout these years, the United States has contributed to transforming our country into an increasingly strong and stable regional partner.
The discussions focused on the impact of Russia’s war against Ukraine on regional security and the pressures exerted by Russia. At the same time, they addressed strengthening cooperation in defense and security, as well as enhancing resilience, particularly in the fields of cybersecurity and energy security.
The President expressed gratitude for the constant support provided by the United States to the Republic of Moldova, including through investments in national security and the energy sector, as well as for the strong and consistent backing of the U.S. Congress.
